Francis Herd is one of South Africa’s most respected business journalists and broadcast anchors, recognised for her ability to unpack complex economic and political developments with clarity and confidence. As a senior anchor and business news leader at eNCA, she has become a trusted voice for audiences seeking insight into the forces shaping business, markets, leadership, and society. Her extensive experience in live television, breaking news coverage, and executive interviews has positioned her as a sought-after moderator, facilitator, and event host.
Francis began her career studying Politics and English at University of the Witwatersrand, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the student newspaper and helped transform it into a leading campus publication. She later joined 702 as a junior reporter, rising through the ranks to become a news anchor and member of the station’s leadership team. Her transition into television broadcasting saw her anchor prime-time news programmes on both the SABC and eNCA, developing a reputation for calm authority, incisive questioning, and journalistic integrity.
Through years of interviewing political leaders, business executives, and decision-makers during moments of intense public scrutiny, Francis developed a particular interest in crisis leadership and reputation management. This passion led her to pursue an MBA at GIBS Business School, where her research examined the relationship between corporate leaders and the media during times of crisis. The work ultimately contributed to the publication of When Crisis Strikes, a book exploring how organisations can navigate high-pressure public challenges with credibility and resilience.
Today, Francis combines her broadcasting expertise with executive coaching, facilitation, and keynote speaking. She regularly works with leaders and organisations on communication, media engagement, crisis preparedness, and navigating uncertainty. Her deep understanding of business, governance, and the broader political economy enables her to elevate conversations far beyond surface-level discussion, making her an invaluable contributor to leadership forums, conferences, and strategic events.
Whether anchoring live broadcasts, moderating boardroom conversations, or hosting major conferences, Francis Herd brings a rare combination of journalistic credibility, business acumen, and engaging stage presence. Her ability to ask the right questions, connect ideas, and create meaningful dialogue makes her one of South Africa’s most trusted and effective facilitators of important conversations.
