Chad Le Clos is a South African swimming legend whose career has been defined by bold ambition, record-breaking achievements, and a relentless drive to inspire. Born on April 12, 1992, in Durban, he began his competitive swimming journey at age 10 and quickly rose through the ranks under the guidance of coach Graham Hill. By 2010, at just 18, he had already secured five medals at the Youth Olympic Games and made his mark at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Le Clos achieved global recognition at the 2012 London Olympics, where he won gold in the 200m butterfly, defeating his idol Michael Phelps in a dramatic final. He also earned silver in the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle, cementing his status as one of the sport’s brightest stars. He went on to win silver and bronze medals in the same events at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and despite setbacks at the Tokyo 2020 Games, he remains a formidable presence in the pool.
Beyond his Olympic success, Le Clos has amassed an impressive array of titles, including 7 gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and 19 medals at the Short Course World Championships. He has also been the overall male winner of the Swimming World Cup four times.
