Leading Under Pressure

About Khanyisa Mnyaka:

Khanyisa Mnyaka doesn't coach leaders to perform better. She coaches them to lead differently, from the inside out.

As an executive coach and creator of the ROOTED™ Leadership Framework, Khanyi works at the intersection of self-leadership, neuroscience-informed practice, and organisational culture. Her work is built on a provocation that organisations globally are only beginning to reckon with: that burnout, toxic culture, and reactive decision-making aren't talent problems, but rather self-leadership deficits dressed up as performance issues.

Khanyi holds a BA in Psychology, a Master's in Gender & Peace Building, and a certification in counselling, self development coaching, executive coaching and trauma-informed coaching, academic grounding that gave her a structural lens on human behaviour long before her coaching practice did. Her work spans continents: she has coached, spoken, and facilitated across South Africa, the United States, and internationally, bringing a cross-cultural fluency that makes her work land with diverse audiences regardless of industry, geography, or seniority level.

Since 2020, she has worked with leaders across corporate, entrepreneurial, and executive contexts, helping them dismantle the patterns that quietly corrode cultures and careers: perfectionism, people-pleasing, over-functioning, and the chronic gap between how leaders present and how they actually behave when the pressure is on.

Her TEDx talk, The Real Cost of People Pleasing, reframed a concept long considered a personal development topic as a pressing organisational risk, challenging corporate audiences to see that the behaviours eroding their cultures aren't strategic failures. They're unexamined leadership patterns. Boardrooms and People & Culture teams are catching up to what Khanyi has argued for years: the way leaders regulate themselves under pressure is the most underinvested lever in organisational performance.

She is also the author of You Belong Here, a self improvement book that reflects her commitment to building belonging not as an aspiration, but as a leadership practice.

Signature Keynotes:
  • The Leadership Identity Gaps

The most expensive problem in your organisation isn't disengagement or attrition, it's the distance between how your leaders present and how they actually lead under pressure. This talk names the patterns (over-control, avoidance, reactive decision-making) and gives leaders a practical framework to close the gap, permanently.

  • Emotional safety is a business strategy

High performance without psychological safety is borrowed time. Drawing on the ROOTED™ Framework, Khanyi makes the business case for why nervous-system regulation and emotional intelligence aren't soft skills. They're your culture's operating system — and the leaders who understand that are the ones building teams that last.

  • Women who lead from the inside out

Designed for women in leadership events and DEI-focused conferences. This keynote challenges the narrative that women need to contort themselves to be taken seriously — and replaces it with something more durable: leading congruently. Thinking, feeling, and acting from the same place, even under pressure, across any room in the world.

  • The real cost of people-pleasing in leadership

Based on her TEDx talk, expanded for executive and corporate audiences. People-pleasing is not a personality trait — it's a leadership risk with a quantifiable cost. This talk gives attendees the tools to interrupt the pattern at an individual and institutional level, drawing on research, real case examples, and cross-cultural insight.
